Taxonomy

A taxonomy is a classification scheme, which means it outlines the rules by which a site is organized – a taxonomy is the name of the system that includes categories, tags, and metadata.

The purpose of a taxonomy is less about actual words (though those are important) and more about the relationships between and meta information assigned to those words.
